Ways to Contribute

The Diction Hub is for anyone professionally, educationally or avocationally interested in vocal music. If you are gung-ho about jumping into a Wiki check out our Sample How-To Page. Native speakers are encouraged to contribute their pronunciation skills to foreign texts listed here; translators are welcome to provide their own un-copyrighted translations, in any language, of original texts set to music; performers are definitely encouraged to embed video and audio of their performances into appropriate pages to serve others as examples of the works.

As with any large scale cultural project, we hope to have many contributors and all are invited to add their views on translation, IPA transcription and to link in quality performances of this repertoire. Join our community and contribute today through our How to Contribute portal.

Diction Hub is, and will remain a completely free project serving singers, coaches, conductors and others interested in the interpretation of vocal music.

Inserting Original Texts

Placing original texts into the song-pages for which they have been set is not a terribly difficult process, but it does require manpower and time. If you have access to original songs texts (including diacritical markings if in a foreign language) and would like to insert these texts into the appropriate vocal-work pages we would love to have you help this project grow.

Translating

Since this project provides original-language texts and translations (generally in English) we can always use translators to help edit translations and create the most accurate translations of song and aria texts.

IPA Phonetic Transcription

Transcribing original texts into phonetic symbols requires a special skill set and if you have this skill and would like to accurately insert the appropriate IPA symbols beneath the original text we would love to have you join us.

Embedding Video and/or Audio Media

Embedding a YouTube or Vimeo video into this site is rather simple and if you have a playlist with excellent performances of many of the vocal works on this site we could use your help linking the correct videos to their applicable pages.

If you are a performer and have a live performance (audio or video) of yourself performing some of these works we welcome you to embed your performance in the page of the vocal work for which it applies. Since this is a MediaWiki installation only embed your performance if you are comfortable with others potentially removing it if they find a better performance or if they find that it does not apply to the page.

Native Speaker Pronunciation Guides

If you are a native speaker of a foreign language all singers would benefit from a pronunciation guide of you speaking the text of as many of these vocal works as you like. Simply upload a video of yourself speaking the text from one of these pages and either embed the video link on the correct page, or make us aware of the link and we will embed it for you.
